All praises are due to Allah the Owner of the worlds. Peace and salutations be showered upon our Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) in abundance and perpetually. Aameen.
Islam lays a lot of stress on consuming Halâl. Allah has emphasized the eating of Halâl because human beings are not like animals. The objective of animals has been restricted by Allah to eating, drinking, procreating, living and dying. On the other hand, Allah has elevated man to fulfill a lofty purpose. This exalted mission is not achieved but through good manners, which in turn is greatly dependent upon what we consume. Therefore, a person of evil constitution is not competent to be called a human being. In the Holy Qur’ân such people have been described as animals, in fact even worse.
“Nay, they are more astray (than animals).” (S. 7 : V.179)
It was the vision of the Jamiatul Ulama (KZN) to be part of a single unifying body, and thereby solve the dilemma facing the Ummah. It is an undeniable truth that this goal was never achieved. The Jamiatul Ulama KZN’s withdrawal from SANHA has resulted in the Jamiat reopening it’s Halâl Desk. The vision of the Jamiat is to not only certify but also endorse the products of all Muslim Halâl Authorising Bodies if they meet the standards of the Jamiat. This has been looked at favourably resulting in the preparation of a draft working document between the Jamiatul Ulama (KZN) and other organisations.
· For the consumer this translates into ‘lesser confusion’ and ‘more choices’.
· For the business houses it will mean no additional costs as the Jamiatul Ulama KZN will not be levying any fees for its certifying or endorsing functions.
· For the other Halâl Authorising Bodies it will mean greater consumer confidence in their certified products. The Jamiatul Ulama’s Halâl Desk is a win – win situation for all.
